The Smart Home & Transport

I'm assuming that our methods of transport goes well beyond just our vehicles and that as much of it as possible is connected to our new contextual smart home. I have on-going research in this space.

A key part of this is the storage of human powered vehicles (e.g. bicycles) and also the charging of electrically assisted transport. Cleaning of footwear, bicycles and cars is also an important consideration. The use of harvested rainwater being a good example.

In July 2022, I undertook project to install solar PV panels, along with a Tesla Powerwall and an electric vehicle (EV) charger. This led me to start looking at our first electric vehicle.

Electric Vehicle

My requirements for our first electric vehicle were quite simple:

In the end we settled on a CUPRA Born. It's fun to drive, has good performance and can do 220 miles in the summer months. In winter, the range drops slightly to 190 miles. This is enough to travel to London and back on a single charge and means 99.9% of our journies are done on a single home charge.

I am also converting a 1992 Eunos Roadster (MX-5) into our MX-5e.
