With my new smart home, a design goal is that our home (and our transport) will not be dependent on the grid for power. A big part in achieving this is the use of solar PV panels. The goal is to have them on the roof and also on solar trackers at ground level. With my smart home solar installation project in our current home, I have learnt a huge amount about solar energy, the limitations and opportunities.
Solar trackers are not very common because of the complexity and reliability issues but, the gains in performance can be worth it. I'm also interested in them because they take up less ground space and look cool :-)
I also plan to have ground mounted panels on solar trackers. I have done some research and development on solar trackers under contextual smart home control and will investigate hardware installations nearer the time. I'm confident that my smart home can intelligent control them and also protect them from high winds.
