Apple TV 1080p
Apple announced the new version of the Apple TV at the press event held on the 7th March 2012. The price remained unchanged at $99/£99. The main change is support for 1080p video. Movies and TV shows from iTunes are now also available in 1080p.
The interface has been streamlined to align it with other interfaces.
TV shows will appear the day after they air live (assuming you have a subscription) and iTunes Match support is included. Netflix is being upgraded to 1080p video and 5.1 Dolby surround sound.
At the same event Apple also announced iOS5.1. The new device features an A5 chip, 512MB of RAM, and 8GB of flash storage.
This device is a 'no brainer' in our view if you have an iPhone or iPad. With our 100Mbps FTTP Internet connection we don't see any issue with streaming video over the Internet and the 1080p video should provide a noticable improvement in picture quality.
We have pre-ordered our device.
